Cardiac Wellness Center

We offer medically-supervised, individualized fitness and education programs that will help you reach your personal health goals, safely and effectively. All fitness and educational programs are open to heart patients or individuals wishing to exercise in a medically-supervised environment. Our friendly, professional staff is ACLS certified and includes cardiac nurses, exercise specialists, an exercise physiologist and a dietitian. Additionally, The American Heart Association (AHA) has recognized The Christ Hospital as a Platinum-level Start! Fit-Friendly Company. The AHA created the Start! program to encourage more Americans to eat better and become more physically active.

  • Pers
  • Personal exercise plan, including cardiovascular fitness, muscular fitness and flexibility
  • Cardiac risk assessment
  • Regular recording of blood pressure and weight
  • Blood glucose monitoring available as needed
  • Assistance with medication management
  • Medical supervision and intervention as needed
  • On-going contact with referring and/or primary care provider
  • Convenient hours
  • State-of-the-art exercise equipment

Smoking Cessation Opportunities:

  • Freshstart Program
    A four week program that meets once a week and focuses on strategies to direct your efforts to stop smoking through active participation and group support.
  • Cooper Clayton Method Program
    This is a comprehensive, behavioral modification program involving nicotine replacement and nicotine reduction therapy. Meets once a week for twelve weeks.

Educational Opportunities

Pre-diabetes Education
You can delay or prevent type 2 diabetes. Learn how regular physical activity and aiming for a healthy weight can help. Small steps today can help avoid or delay major lifestyle changes later.
First and second Tuesday of each month, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., $40 per two-session class

Positively P.O.W.E.R.-ful
Supervised exercise program for individuals with high blood sugar, diabetes or pre-diabetes to help gain control over blood sugar levels
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.
$80 for eight sessions

Healing Wounds Through Nutrition
Join us for an educational session about how to eat healthy. Geared toward the wound healing patient, this session is led by a registered dietitian and is free to the public.
Date: 4th Tuesday of each month
Time: 10-10:45 a.m.

Cancer Center Conference Room

Nutrition for Cancer Patients
Join us for a free 45 minute session on healthy eating for the cancer patient. This class is lead by a registered dietitian and is free of charge.
Date: 4th Tuesday of each month

Outpatient Cardiac Series
These FREE education sessions are customized to answer the questions you want answered.
Topics may include:

Get To The Heart of It — Heart anatomy and physiology including how heart disease develops and treatment options.
What Are Your Numbers? — What your cholesterol numbers mean and what you can do to improve your numbers.
Pressure Down! — What blood pressure is and what you can do to keep your blood pressure low.
Lighten Up! — Learn how to cook and eat healthy.
Get Movin’ — Exercise guidelines to help you improve your cardiovascular and muscular health.
Type A – NO way! — Reduce your stress levels with these easy tips!
Pump It Up! — All about heart failure and how to manage the symptoms.
Quit Puffin’ — Strategies to help you quit smoking.
A Woman’s Heart — Women and heart disease.
Sweet Success — Help for managing your blood sugars.

Fitness Opportunities

Cardiac Rehab Phase II*

Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Telemetry-monitored exercise and comprehensive risk reduction program for individuals with stable angina, heart attack, heart valve replacement, bypass surgery, angioplasty, stent and heart transplant. Three days per week for approximately twelve weeks. Medicare reimbursement is available for above diagnoses. Some private insurance may also cover for other diagnoses.

5 days for Fitness*
Monday through Friday
6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (closed 12:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)
Non-telemetry monitored program for individuals who would like to exercise in a medically-supervised environment. May attend up to 5 times per week. Self-pay.

2 days for Fitness*
Tuesday and Thursdays (only)
6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Non-telemetry monitored program for individuals who would like to exercise in a medically-supervised environment. Tuesday and Thursday only. Self-pay.

Heart Failure Exercise Program*
Tuesdays and Thursdays (only)
11:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m.
An eight-session, medically-supervised exercise program for individuals with heart failure. Sessions will include education and symptom management. Self pay.
