The Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit (CVSU) is a surgical, 35-bed unit on the A Level in the The Christ Hospital Heart and Vascular Center. The primary focus is heart and vascular care, but the staff is experienced in caring for any diagnosis.
This unit is filled with natural woods, stone and metal, woven with natural light to create a sense of “feng shui,” the art of placement. There is a rooftop garden with a view of the city, where heart monitoring is available, so patients can feel free to spend time outdoors when able. Most of the rooms are private with large windows and a bath area designed to let in light while maintaining privacy.
CVSU has a staff of physicians, nurses, patient care assistants, health unit coordinators and cardiac monitor readers who work together to provide quality care. All of the nurses are Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified and have over 700 years of combined nursing experience. In addition, there are exercise specialists who perform all the cardiac rehab and education before discharge. There is a social worker and a case manager assigned to each patient for a smooth transition from admission to discharge.
CVSU was recently recognized by Press Ganey as one of the 15 national finalists for their efforts in patient satisfaction.
