Kidney Transplant at The Christ Hospital

The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati has been performing kidney transplants since 1972 from both living and deceased donors. More than 1,400 kidney transplants have been performed at The Christ Hospital to date.

The combined experience of The Christ Hospital nephrologists and University of Cincinnati kidney transplant surgeons have created one of the most successful renal (kidney) transplant programs in the country. Kidney transplants performed here are done 100 percent laparoscopically for a shorter recovery period for the recipient and donor.

What is laparoscopic kidney donation?

The University Hospital and The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati routinely perform laparoscopic living kidney donation. Laparoscopic donation is a surgical procedure that has markedly reduced the pain and discomfort associated with giving a living donor kidney. By using an instrument known as a laparoscope, it is now possible to perform the operation through only a few small incisions.
