Medical oncology focuses on the non-surgical, non-radiation, care of patients with cancer and blood diseases.
Radiation OncologyWhat is radiation therapy?
Today, cancer treatment includes the following procedures: surgery, radiation therapy, or a systemic therapy such as chemotherapy or hormonal therapy. Cancer specialists often use a combination of these treatments. Roughly 50 to 60 percent of cancer patients are treated with radiation therapy at some time during their disease.
Inpatient Oncology Unit4-West, the inpatient oncology unit at The Christ Hospital is a 30-bed unit. Our multidisciplinary team provides specialized care for persons with cancer, and includes our oncology physicians, nurses, patient care assistants, case managers, pharmacists, social worker, dietitian and chaplain.
