Cancer Registry

The Christ Hospital Cancer Registry is a data system for the collection and analysis of information on all cancer patients diagnosed and treated at the hospital. The Cancer Registry is staffed by certified cancer registrars who are trained to collect and analyze medical information specifically related to cancer. Certified cancer registrars provide complete and accurate information while maintaining confidentiality as well.

The Christ Hospital is accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer. In order to maintain this accreditation, The Christ Hospital must have a system in place to monitor all types of cancer diagnosed and/or treated at the hospital. The goal of the Commission, as well as The Christ Hospital, is to decrease the mortality of patients with cancer. The cancer registry provides statistical reports of registry data to physicians who treat cancer patients for evaluation of the success of cancer treatments. Once a cancer patient has been identified, that patient is followed by the registry and evaluated for treatment, survival, and detection of recurrent disease. The data collected and maintained in the registry serves as a resource for researchers interested in the causes, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Information collected by the Cancer Registry includes clinical information (symptoms, details of prior treatment), demographics (age, sex, race, place of residence), diagnostic findings (type, dates and results of diagnostic procedures) and treatment (type and dates of treatment given).

The Christ Hospital Cancer Registry is committed to decreasing the morbidity and mortality caused by cancer, through accurate and complete data collection that can be used to monitor, analyze and report cancer incidence, treatment and survival.
