The Christ Hospital’s Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) is made up of community members representing a variety of professional backgrounds and personal experiences, as well as employees from disciplines throughout the hospital.
Mission
Improve quality of care – patients and families will be involved in care planning and implementation.
Improve facility design and renovation – patients and families will assist in making the hospital patient, family and visitor friendly.
Improve customer satisfaction – patients and families will empower the hospital to make patients and families first in every interaction.

The following are examples of objectives or initiatives that the PFAC has or are involved with:
• Retrieve and share ideas/information from patients, families, employees and physicians for enhancing a patient and family-centered care environment.
• Be involved in hospital policy and program development, implementation and evaluation.
• Participate in facility development and renovation.
• Provide a forum for patients and families to discuss issues and concerns.
• Participate in employee, physician and community orientation to share patient- and family-centered care concepts.
Applying for PFAC Membership
Family Member Responsibilities
• Attend monthly meetings
• Participate to the fullest extent during each meeting
• Participate, as time and interest allow, in additional committees and task forces
• Embrace the mission/vision/values of the PFAC
• Advocating the concepts of patient- and family-centered care
• Educating other family members about the PFAC.
Staff Member Responsibilities
• Attend monthly meetings
• Participate to the fullest extent during each meeting
• Participate, as time and interest allow, in additional committees and task forces
• Embrace the mission/vision/values of the Family Advisory Council
• Practice as a role model for the values and concepts of patient- and family-centered care
• Educate and advocate for the concepts and values of patient- and family-centered care to fellow employees and staff
• Educate other Christ employees about the work of the PFAC
• Encourage the use of the PFAC by employees and staff
• Report professional activities to the PFAC when appropriate.
Term
All members are asked to serve a two-year term. Approximately half of the PFAC will rotate annually. Council members select a Chairperson, Chair Person-Elect, Vice Chair and Secretary.
Meetings
Two hours in duration. Meetings take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month.
Selection Process/Criteria
Members should have a sincere desire to improve processes at The Christ Hospital. The council will not be a forum to deal with personal issues. Members will be a cross-section, representing a variety of medical services, ages, genders, cultures/ethnicities and socioeconomic status. The Council is comprised of 30-35 members made up of approximately half patients/families and half staff.
Interviews
Family and staff will conduct membership interviews. Interviews will be conducted by two members of the PFAC Recruitment Committee. Not every applicant will be selected.
