Cincinnati, Ohio – The Christ Hospital Health Network and Messer Construction Co. celebrated a construction milestone in the hospital’s Mount Auburn campus expansion with the ceremonial topping off of the new visitor garage. The final bucket of concrete was hoisted into place at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, taking the new garage to its full height. The new visitor garage is scheduled to open in January 2014.
The new visitor garage is located on Auburn Avenue between Mason Street and Huntington Place. When completed, the garage will have approximately 850 parking spaces on eight levels. It also includes approximately 3,000 square feet of potential retail space facing Auburn Avenue. A pedestrian bridge over Mason Street will connect the garage to the rest of the hospital’s Mount Auburn campus.
The architecture of the new visitor garage was thoughtfully designed to fit with the historic character of Mount Auburn and match the architecture of other buildings on The Christ Hospital campus. The building gradually sets back from Auburn Avenue so it does not overwhelm the streetscape. The exterior will be clad in brick, precast concrete and glass materials to enhance the visual appeal of the structure. Natural elements including trees and grassy areas will surround the garage to complement the hospital’s award-winning landscaping.
The old visitor garage closed in July 2012 and was cleared for construction of The Christ Hospital Joint and Spine Center – a regionally unique facility dedicated solely to orthopaedic and spine care, education and clinical outcomes research. The Joint and Spine Center will be a one-stop destination for the diagnosis and treatment of orthopaedic, spine and sports injuries – including non-operative care, inpatient and outpatient surgery and rehabilitation. The Joint and Spine Center will feature 60 private inpatient rooms, 12 operating rooms, physical and occupational therapy, pain management, imaging services, conference and educational facilities and physician offices. The Joint and Spine Center is scheduled to open in summer of 2015.
The Christ Hospital campus expansion also includes construction of a new main entrance to the hospital from Auburn Avenue and a Materials Management Building on the northern edge of campus. The Materials Management Building will be the new shipping and receiving hub for campus. It is scheduled to open in late 2013.
