MEDIA ALERT: The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences Hosts Live Surgery Experience

Healthcare Exploration for Local High School Students

Who:  The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences & The Christ Hospital Health Network
What:  The 17th Annual Live Surgery Experience and Healthcare Exploration, presented by The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences, gives students interested in healthcare careers a chance to see first-hand the varied professionals who work in the operating room and nursing specialties. Students from 10 area high schools are scheduled to observe a heart surgery performed by Dr. Robert Gallegos, The Christ Hospital Physicians, via a video feed to the hospital auditorium. All students will have an opportunity to interact with operating room personnel through a moderator during the procedure and ask the surgeon questions at the conclusion of the surgery. Following the surgery, schools will enjoy lunch, a Q&A with Christ College alumni nurses, and an anaphylaxis simulation provided by Mark Johnston, TCHHN EMS Coordinator, and Maureen Corl, NP, TCHHN Coordinator for Heart and Vascular Programs. Students will engage in a hands-on activity using SimMan 3G, a high fidelity human simulator used in medical education that mimics real patients and promotes safe patient care.
