Latest Surgical Techniques for Recurrent Sinus Infections
The Christ Hospital Health Network’s board-certified otolaryngologists specialize in the most advanced surgical management of chronic sinusitis, or recurrent episodes of sinusitis.
Balloon sinuplasty is a minimally invasive surgical approach. It involves your surgeon placing a balloon catheter through your nose into the blocked sinus passageway. The balloon is inflated to gently dilate the natural passages that drain the sinuses.
Traditional surgery would involve bone and tissue removal to open blocked passageways. Although this technique can remove the affected tissue and has shown to be effective, it can also leave behind scarring, and it can take months for the sinus lining to become functional again. With the balloon method, patients can return to normal activities within 48 hours.
