Our residents’ individualized experience fosters strong resident/attending relationships that support and assist residents throughout the fellowship application processes. The Christ Hospital Internal Medicine Residency’s reputation, away-elective options, and faculty commitment to resident success bolster our ability to match residents in fellowships. Our alumni and professional networks create connections for fellowships across the country.
Residents in our program work with our hospitalists throughout their rotations. Our hospital is fortunate to have an extremely experienced and stable hospitalist program. Four of our hospitalists have additional training as geriatricians, which is one reason The Christ Hospital is ranked highly by U.S. News & World Report for geriatric care. Our hospitalists’ experience affords residents the opportunity to serve on a team and learn from some of the most competent and skilled hospitalists in the industry. In addition, residents can work within our hospitalist consultation service where they can gain experience in hospital consultative medicine. If interested, we also make elective time available to our residents to fulfill their passion in this specialty.
Our residents also receive medical intensive care unit experience to ensure comprehensive training in this essential setting. Residents at The Christ Hospital receive significant critical care experience, and aren’t limited to medically straightforward cases. A critical care specialist leads multidisciplinary rounds in the intensive care unit as well as a formal Society of Critical Care Medicine curriculum during the rotation. The result is physicians who are better diagnosticians and clinicians, able to effectively treat a wider variety of patients.
Experience in these medical disciplines is fulfilled through our many clinical sites including The Christ Hospital and The Christ Hospital Outpatient Clinic. Residents receive additional instruction through individualized directed reading and in the hospital’s simulation lab.
In addition to these hands-on experiences, our residents are offered research opportunities including the Carl and Edyth Lindner Center for Research and Education, The Christ Hospital Cancer Center, the James Gamble research facility and many more partnerships. These offer multidisciplinary research opportunities with active clinical trials. We encourage and expect residents to publish any research work while in the residency program.
Outside of the hospital, residents enjoy the city of Cincinnati, which is economically thriving and is blessed with abundant culture. Cincinnati is home to multiple professional sports teams—the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals, the Cincinnati Cyclones (hockey), and FC Cincinnati (soccer). The city is nationally recognized for its food and breweries as well as hometown favorite for many restaurants such as Skyline Chili, LaRosa’s Pizza, Montgomery Inn, and Graeters Ice Cream. Many exceptional colleges and universities call Cincinnati home including basketball rivals the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University. Finally, Cincinnati is one of the strongest start-up economies in the nation.
