Our residents’ individualized experience fosters strong resident/attending relationships that support and assist residents throughout the fellowship application processes. The Christ Hospital Internal Medicine Residency’s strong reputation, away-elective options, and faculty commitment to resident success bolster our ability to match residents in fellowships. Our alumni and professional networks create connections for fellowships across the country. The Christ Hospital residency program proves successful as 96 percent of our residents who apply for fellowship positions are matched.
Residents in our program work with our hospitalists throughout their rotations. Our hospital is fortunate to have an extremely experienced and stable hospitalist program. Four of our hospitalists have additional training as geriatricians, which is one reason The Christ Hospital is ranked highly by U.S. News & World Report for geriatric care. Our hospitalists’ experience affords residents the opportunity to serve on a team and learn from some of the most competent and skilled hospitalists in the industry. In addition, residents can work within our hospitalist consultation service where they can gain experience in hospital consultative medicine. If interested, we also make elective time available to our residents to fulfill their passion in this specialty.
Our residents also receive medical intensive care unit experience to ensure comprehensive training in this essential setting. Residents at The Christ Hospital receive significant critical care experience, and aren’t limited to medically straightforward cases. A critical care specialist leads multidisciplinary rounds in the intensive care unit as well as a formal Society of Critical Care Medicine curriculum during the rotation. The result is physicians who are better diagnosticians and clinicians, able to effectively treat a wider variety of patients.
Experience in these medical disciplines is fulfilled through our many clinical sites including The Christ Hospital, The Christ Hospital Outpatient Clinic, and Maple Knoll Village.
In addition to these hands-on experiences, our residents are offered exemplary research opportunities including the renowned Carl and Edyth Lindner Center for Research and Education, The Christ Hospital Cancer Center, the James Gamble research facility and many more partnerships. These offer multidisciplinary research opportunities with active clinical trials. We encourage and expect residents to publish any research work while in the residency program.
Along with residents’ medical experiences, they will get to experience the economically thriving, local culture-driven and spirited City of Cincinnati. Cincinnati is home to two professional sports teams - the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals - and is a nationally recognized hometown favorite for many restaurants such as: Skyline Chili, LaRosa’s Pizza, Montgomery Inn and Graeters Ice Cream. The rival, yet exceptional universities, University of Cincinnati and Xavier University also call Cincinnati home. Cincinnati has one of the largest start-up economic scenes in the nation and continues to grow and build with local businesses through incubators all over the city.
We are inspired by this compassionate and growing city and hope to continue to make wellness in reach to everyone in the Greater Cincinnati area.
