On January 2, 2023, the city of Cincinnati opened the world's eyes to cardiac events and the importance of swift action with CPR and AEDs following Damar Hamlin's hospitalization. We know AEDs save lives.
However, not everyone in this community has access to one —yet.
Law enforcement across Hamilton County is currently experiencing a critical need for AEDs in order to prevent unnecessary cardiac deaths. Our sheriff's deputies and police officers are often the first responders on the scene of an emergency. In the last year, there were over 1200 cardiac event calls to the Hamilton County Sheriff's patrolled areas, and over three-quarters of those patrol cars did not have an AED in their cruiser.
Having an AED on the scene of a cardiac event increases the survival rate from 10% to 40%. Our mission is to equip our Hamilton County sheriffs and extended law enforcement officers with the life-saving AEDs they need. That is why we are asking for your support.
By making a gift today, you can help us equip more patrol cars in Hamilton County with an AED.
Project Heart ReStart: AED Readiness for Sheriff First Responders is a combined effort of The Rotary Club of Cincinnati, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, The Christ Hospital Health Network, and Cintas. Together, we share the goal of preventing unnecessary cardiac deaths in Hamilton County.
