The Christ Hospital Health Network One of the Nation's Best for Heart Care

Only Hospital in Region Ranked in the Nation’s Top 50 by Truven Health Analytics

Cincinnati (November 10, 2016) – The Christ Hospital Health Network was named one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals® by Truven Health Analytics. The study identifies hospitals that achieve superior clinical outcomes. This is the 13th year the hospital has earned this recognition.
Recognized as “Greater Cincinnati’s Heart HospitalSM”, The Christ Hospital offers the most advanced and experienced cardiovascular care in the region. Thousands of patients each year benefit from access to clinical programs dedicated to treating heart failure, heart valve disease, cardiac rhythm issues, difficult-to-manage hypertension, cardiac surgery, vascular disease and general heart disease management. Highly-focused programs provide unique treatments to patients who were previously left without treatment options, such as minimally-invasive aortic valve replacement to treat severe heart valve disease and ventricular assist device (VAD) implantation for end-state heart failure.
"We are honored to be named one of the nation's 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals, and are proud to continue Christ Hospital's long tradition of clinical excellence," said Ian J. Sarembock MB, ChB, MD, service line executive medical director of The Christ Hospital Heart & Vascular Center. “This honor is well-deserved by our exceptional team of physicians, nurses and staff.”
The Christ Hospital is at the forefront of innovative cardiovascular care provided by multidisciplinary teams focused on the treatment of specific conditions. This specialized approach provides a platform to improve care and develop innovative treatments, such as new minimally invasive procedures to replace traditional complex surgeries. Our clinical teams are transforming care to provide better treatment options, safer techniques and faster recoveries for our patients. The Christ Hospital Lindner Research Center has introduced most of the new techniques in cardiovascular medicine over the past 20 years.
The impact of the Truven study indicates an opportunity to improve cardiovascular care in the United States, if the efforts of The Christ Hospital and other recognized hospitals are replicated.  In fact, if all cardiovascular providers in the U.S. performed at the level of this year's Truven winners, more than 9,500 additional lives and $1 billion could be saved.
The study, now in its 18th year, singled out 50 hospitals that achieved superior clinical outcomes in this critical area of hospital care. As is the case with the Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals® study, the rigorous processes used to calculate and measure hospital service lines leverage industry-leading, risk-adjusted methodologies developed and maintained by Truven Health scientists over many years. The 100 Top Hospitals study is widely regarded as the leading program for evaluating leadership impact in a hospital, as well as for evaluating quality indicators and efficiencies.
The Truven Health 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals study measures performance in key performance areas: risk-adjusted mortality, risk-adjusted complications, core measures (a group of measures that assess process of care), percentage of coronary bypass patients with internal mammary artery use, 30-day mortality rates, 30-day readmission rates, severity-adjusted average length of stay, and wage- and severity-adjusted average cost. The study has been conducted annually since 1999.
