The Christ Hospital Named One of the Nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics

Award Winners Demonstrate That Quality Care and Operational Efficiency Can Often be Achieved Simultaneously

Cincinnati (March 6, 2017) – The Christ Hospital was today named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals®, out of more than 2,700 nationwide, by Truven Health Analytics®, IBM Watson Health™, a leading provider of data-driven analytics and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare.
“We’re very pleased to be recognized for the exceptional work performed by our talented physicians, nurses, caregivers and staff. Our mission is to improve the health of our community and to create patient value by providing exceptional outcomes, the finest patient experiences, and affordable care, and our teams are passionately pursuing this mission each day,” said Mike Keating, President and CEO of The Christ Hospital Health Network.
Based on 2017 research, Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals award winners demonstrate that quality care and operational efficiency can often be achieved simultaneously, a factor that is growing in importance as value-based payment models gain momentum.
The study shows that if all hospitals in the U.S. performed at the level of this year’s winners, the following would be true:
• Nearly 89,000 additional lives could be saved in-hospital
• Over 61,000 additional patients could be complication-free
• Over $5.6 billion in inpatient costs could be saved
• The typical patient could be released from the hospital a half day sooner and would have two percent fewer expenses related to the complete episode of care than the median patient in the US
• Over 300,000 fewer discharged patients would be readmitted within 30 days
• Patients could spend nine minutes less in hospital emergency rooms per visit
This analysis is based on applying the difference between study winners and non-winners to Medicare patient counts. If the same standards were applied to all inpatients, the impact would be even greater.
The annual Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals® study from Truven Health Analytics®, IBM Watson Health™, incorporates independent public data, risk-adjusted and peer-reviewed methodology, and key performance metrics to arrive at an objective analysis of the best hospitals in the nation. Hospitals do not apply for consideration, and winners do not pay to market this honor. Truven Health has produced this study and its list of winners for more than two decades, and it has become one of the leading ways the industry can measure hospital performance in the US. This is the seventh time
The Christ Hospital has been recognized with this honor.
The research uses a validated, national balanced scorecard that evaluates hospitals on measures of patient care and satisfaction, operational efficiency and financial stability. It compares hospitals only against similar facilities in terms of size and teaching status.
The winning hospitals were announced in Modern Healthcare Magazine. More information can be found at 100tophospitals.com
