The Christ Hospital Heart & Vascular Team is pleased to announce the addition of Hassan Hamed, MD, Interventional Cardiologist, who joins The Christ Hospital Health Network as Medical Director, onsite, at Clinton Memorial’s cardiac catherization laboratory.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Hassan Hamed to Christ Hospital, and to Cincinnati, as part of this landmark partnership,” says Dr. Eugene S. Chung, Chief of Cardiology and Heart & Vascular Service Line Director. “Dr. Hamed is an interventional cardiologist experienced in multiple cardiac disciplines and we are thrilled to incorporate him into our high standards to benefit our partnership endeavors.”

“I am delighted with the position and with an opportunity to offer localized cardiac care to the people in Clinton County,” says Dr. Hamed. “Clinton Memorial supports a large community and I look forward to attending to their needs.”

Board certified in Interventional Cardiology, Dr. Hamed completed two fellowships, first in cardiology at Howard University, Washington, DC, and in Interventional Cardiology at Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia. His previous positions include staff physician in Jerusalem and Palestine; medical director of the cardiac catherization laboratory, in Saint Joseph Hospital, Kentucky; and interventional cardiologist, at Saint Mary’s Hospital, Indiana.

Part of Christ Hospital’s strategic approach is to create partnerships and make connections with other hospitals to support the communities they serve together. Dr. Chung says, “This relationship with our friends at Clinton Memorial establishes opportunities for their community to have the same excellent level of cardiac catherization and care that we offer and provide at The Christ Hospital.”

Lance Beus, Chief Executive Officer at Clinton Memorial agrees and makes it clear their entire team is delighted about this collaboration and enthusiastically welcomes Dr. Hamed. “This alliance means we can offer the same level of cardiac care, up to our capabilities, as they offer to patients at The Christ Hospital—and it’s available without an hour’s drive.” Clinton Memorial Hospital is situated in rural Wilmington, Ohio, about an hour northeast of The Christ Hospital.

This joint venture is centered on the cardiac catherization lab at Clinton Memorial that recently had a multimillion-dollar upgrade to its facility and equipment, including cardiac ultrasound, nuclear camera, and ECHO machine. “The lab is beautifully renovated,” says Dr. Hamed, “and this team has both the knowledge and the personal skills to care extremely well for the patients.” The lab officially opened to serve patients in the community on September 1 and offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient diagnostic and interventional procedures.

Dr. Hamed will work closely with physician and general cardiologist, Christopher M. Wright, MD, MBA, FACC, who has worked for Clinton Memorial since 2013. “There is a lot of enthusiasm on both sides,” says Dr. Wright. “This is a partnership of coordination for virtually every step of the patient’s experience and the whole process is reviewed and enhanced on a real-time basis to provide the highest quality of care.”

Everyone agrees that establishing Dr. Hamed in a permanent position offers a long-awaited continuity for patients in their region. “This is a culmination of what our community wants,” says Matt Gunderman, Senior Director of Emergency, Cardiac and Interventional Radiology Services for Clinton Memorial. “Our community wants to see the same physician, go to the same office, and work with the same group regardless if they need an office visit or a cardiac intervention, and now we can offer them consistency and a continuity of care.”

For complicated or complex cardiac needs, patients will easily be transferred by the Christ LIfeFlight helicopter for advanced, or tertiary, care at The Christ Hospital Heart & Vascular Center. Afterward, patients will return to the local physicians for cardiac follow-up, cardiac rehab, and ongoing cardiac care. “The idea is to offer invasive care locally, and at the point a patient has complex or complicated cardiac needs they are transferred to Christ Hospital,” says Chung. “We are thrilled to partner with Clinton Memorial as they grow into a regional cardiac center for the rural areas they support.”
