The Christ Hospital Health Network Now Offering BrainLab Technology for Brain Tumor Removal

Enhanced Cranial Care is Possible Through a Partnership with Mayfield Brain & Spine

CINCINNATI (December 12, 2022) – The Christ Hospital Health Network, in partnership with Mayfield Brain & Spine, is proud to expand technology available to its cranial surgery patients. To this point, six Mayfield Brain & Spine neurosurgeons have performed operations using the BrainLab technology at The Christ Hospital Health Network, and additional surgeries have been planned in the upcoming months.

With BrainLab technology, surgeons are able to use high-definition, image-guided equipment allowing surgeons to view the imaging during the procedure. The images can more easily distinguish tumors from healthy brain tissue. This also allows surgeons access to more images after removing a brain tumor without having to perform another procedure. This has proven to reduce surgery and recovery times while improving outcomes.

“We are excited to bring BrainLab technology inside the walls of The Christ Hospital Health Network,” said Brian Colley, Executive Director of the Musculoskeletal Service Line at The Christ Hospital Health Network. “Our partnership with Mayfield Brain & Spine continues to expand care using this gold standard of image-guided technology. Together, we have everything it takes to continue bringing exceptional outcomes to all of our patients.”

In 2021, The Christ Hospital Health Network and Mayfield Brain & Spine expanded their historic partnership to provide the full portfolio of brain tumor and other cranial surgeries, adding to a long history of innovation and excellence in spine surgery. The partnership expansion includes a significant investment by The Christ Hospital in advanced equipment, including the BrainLab imaging technology.

“With the use of BrainLab technology, patients can be assured they are receiving the benefits of advanced imaging to treat brain tumors and other cranial surgeries,” said Robert Bohinski, MD, PhD, Mayfield Brain & Spine Neurosurgeon. “These patients see improved outcomes. It’s just one example of how the partnership we have developed with The Christ Hospital can improve the lives of our patients.”
