The Christ Hospital Among America’s Best for 16th Consecutive Year by U.S. News & World Report

Ranked Number One Hospital in Cincinnati Metro Area

Cincinnati (July 21, 2015) - The Christ Hospital - Greater Cincinnati’s Most Preferred Hospital - is ranked among America’s Best Hospitals for the 16th consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report. The Christ Hospital is ranked the number one hospital in the Cincinnati Metro Area for 2015-16. The U.S. News rankings name The Christ Hospital as one of the top 50 hospitals in the nation for orthopaedics, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, and geriatrics. The Christ Hospital was ranked high performing in nephrology, pulmonology and urology.

For 2015-16, U.S. News evaluated hospitals in various adult specialties and ranked the top 50 in most of the specialties. Less than 3 percent of the nearly 5,000 hospitals that were analyzed for Best Hospitals 2015-16 were nationally ranked in just one specialty.

“For 125 years, The Christ Hospital has been a leader in transforming care across the region by delivering exceptional healthcare and wellness services. Our continued ranking by U.S. News, as one of America’s Best Hospitals, reflects the commitment of our talented physicians, nurses and employees to provide our patients and their families with the best outcomes and the finest experiences,” said Mike Keating, President and CEO of The Christ Hospital Health Network.

The Christ Hospital Health Network is expanding its nationally-ranked orthopaedics program with the opening of The Joint and Spine Center this fall. The Christ Hospital Joint and Spine Center will be the first and only center of its kind in the region providing comprehensive orthopaedic and spine care, sports medicine, rehabilitation, clinical research, and education in one location. The expertise of the orthopaedic physicians, nurses and support staff and their dedication to patients has led to patient satisfaction scores consistently in the top five percent in the nation, according to Press Ganey. The Christ Hospital’s nationally-ranked diabetes and endocrine program is continually improving patient outcomes through initiatives such as the Under 200 Campaign. The campaign has made a significant impact on providing safer glycemic control in the inpatient setting by using insulin rather than oral diabetes medication to keep blood sugar levels in normal range. The Christ Hospital Health Network is also expanding services into the community with outpatient Diabetes and Endocrine Center locations in Madisonville, Green Township and Fort Wright. For information or scheduling, call 513-272-0313.

The nationally-ranked gastroenterology and GI program at The Christ Hospital uses the latest technology to support patients through the diagnosis and treatment of a full range of disorders of the digestive tract, including the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, colon and rectum. For more information or scheduling, call 513-751-6667.

More geriatricians work at The Christ Hospital’s nationally-ranked geriatrics unit than anywhere else in Greater Cincinnati. Geriatricians at The Christ Hospital are specially trained to manage multiple diagnoses from memory loss to managing a chronic health condition. The Christ Hospital is home to the only outpatient primary care geriatric center in the region, The Christ Hospital Health and Aging Center, and the Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) Unit at The Christ Hospital is the only one of its kind in Greater Cincinnati. The 10-bed ACE Unit is staffed by a highly specialized geriatrics care team who works alongside the treating hospital physicians to survey and assess for the special needs of older patients and their loved ones in order to achieve the outcomes patients and families expect. The ACE’s purpose is to work diligently to prevent physical and mental decline of older adult patients whose condition warrants hospitalization.

U.S. News publishes Best Hospitals to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition or extra risk because of age or multiple health problems. Objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, adequacy of nurse staffing levels and other data largely determined the rankings in most specialties.
