Heart valve disease alters the flow of blood through the heart. It primarily affects people over the age of 60 as a result of changes in the valve structure.

There are two main types of heart valve disease:

  • Regurgitation occurs when one of the heart valves does not close entirely, allowing blood to leak backwards.
