The Christ Hospital Successfully Implants First-in-Ohio Device to Address Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Replacement System

The Christ Hospital is the Sixth Location in the Country to Perform the Surgery

CINCINNATI (October 13, 2025) – The structural heart team at The Christ Hospital Health Network has successfully performed the first Topaz transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR) system in the state of Ohio and sixth in the country. The procedure was made possible through the Carl & Edyth Lindner Center for Research and Education at The Christ Hospital Health Network as an early feasibility study.

The Topaz TTVR System is designed to eliminated tricuspid regurgitation through a minimally invasive surgery. The system consists of the Topaz Heart Valve Prosthesis and a catheter-based implantation system that flexes during every heartbeat. You can see how the device works by viewing this video. The case was performed by Santiago Garcia, MD, FACC, FSCAI Director, Structural Heart Program and Harold C. Schott Endowed Chair in Structural Heart Disease, Puvi Seshiah, MD, interventional cardiologist and their team.

“This new device is a gamechanger for those with tricuspid regurgitation,” said Dr. Garcia. “The simple and fast procedure creates a low impact on cardiac electrical conductions pathways. Research and clinical trials like this are the reason we continue to be the heart destination in the region. We are excited to be the first in Ohio to offer this groundbreaking implant to heart patients.”

The Topaz System includes a unique two-stent valve prosthesis, inserted primarily via the femoral vein, which transports the prosthesis into the right half of the heart, before it is released to replace the diseased tricuspid valve. It is developed exclusively for the use in the tricuspid position and to provide a system for physicians that is safe and easy to implant.

“This is a tremendous achievement for the entire team at The Christ Hospital Heart & Vascular Institute,” said Dr. Seshiah. “The Topaz TTVR System offers easy handling, precise positioning and intuitive deployment. The Christ Hospital understands the importance and value to work with the latest technologies to give our heart patients the best outcomes in the Greater Cincinnati region.”

The Christ Hospital is one of eight sites in the country to take part in this early feasibility study that hopes to one day received FDA approval.
