CINCINNATI (November 11, 2025) – The Christ Hospital Health Network wants the public to know about screenings and treatments for those diagnosed with lung cancer. Catching cancer earlier on can result in better outcomes for the patient.
Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths among American men and women. Smoking cigarettes in the leading cause of lung cancer but secondhand smoke, family history and environmental factors can also come into play. Many people with lung cancer may not have any symptoms until it’s in advanced stages.

An AI tool from Epic is helping detect lung cancer early. So far, more than 100 patients have began treatment thanks to this tool that identifies nodules that providers should follow up with.
“Not only are we capturing more incidental lung nodules now that we’re able to extract this data from our radiologist reports, it also helps eliminate or reduce human error,” said Ashley Campbell, MSN, APRN, lung program nurse practitioner to media this summer. “Obviously, the biggest benefit here is that we are capturing lung cancers at the earliest possible stage.”
That’s important because according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, both Kentucky and Ohio are in the top four states with the highest rates of adults smokers. According to the American Cancer Society, in the United States, more than 235,000 people will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year alone. While lung cancer is mainly diagnosed in people 65 or older, some patients can be diagnosed younger than 45. Lung cancer kills more people than colon, breast and prostate cancers combined.
