Adam Tullius, CNP is a certified nurse practitioner with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Heart & Vascular who specializes in critical care medicine. He provides care for patients at The Christ Hospital’s Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit in Mt. Auburn.
Adam developed a love of science, especially anatomy and physiology, during high school. After learning more about the nursing field from a family friend at a career fair, he decided on his career path and has never looked back.
“It sounded incredibly fulfilling to be able to work in high-intensity environments and with people at some of the hardest moments in their lives,” he says, “especially when you have the ability to make things a little better during their times of need. It’s an honor and a blessing to be part of people’s toughest moments and to help steer them to recovery while making a positive impact in a way that very few professions can.”
Adam takes a patient-first approach to care with a focus on seeing each patient first as a unique human being, rather than as a diagnosis on the board. “I want to see and know them first before judging where we need to go together,” he says, “then I can work together with the person in front of me to help them meet their goals.”
He wants his patients to understand his commitment to doing things “for” them rather than “to” them while they are under his care, and he encourages them to communicate openly to help him understand their specific needs. “It is essential for me to know what’s important to you, what you want to achieve, and what keeps you going,” he says. “When we both know what we are working toward together, there is clarity in our path to achieving those goals.”
Adam earned a Master of Science as a nurse practitioner from the University of Cincinnati. He is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and he is a member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.
Adam is an avid animal lover and in his free time he enjoys exploring the outdoors with his dog, traveling with his wife, gardening, scuba diving, historical and cultural dancing, and following international soccer.
