Support Services

Services and Resources Available to Patients and Families
These services and resources are provided and administered by the Cancer Center Social Work Office. Please let us assist you in any of the following areas

Financial Counseling
Assistance with concerns related to medical coverage, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Disability, Medication Assistance programs, utility payment programs, etc.

Transportation
Assistance with accessing medical transportation resources such as: neighborhood or community-based options, ACCESS, Medicaid (NET), Council on Aging, American Cancer Society, etc.

Home Care
Assistance with the prescription for, and acquisition of, in-home health care services. These services may be either medical or non-medical medical in nature. Medical means your doctor states that the assistance is a medical necessity. Such assistance is usually covered by insurance, either partially or totally. Non-medical means that the assistance may indeed be helpful but is not a medical necessity and is therefore an out-of-pocket expense.

Equipment
Assistance with the prescription for, and acquisition of, medical equipment such as hospital bed, wheelchair, cranial prosthesis (wig), oxygen, etc.

Counseling
Supportive counseling, grief counseling, and referrals. With consideration for your privacy, you are welcome to talk with our social workers in the Cancer Center Social Work office or by phone. Appointments are not required.

Support Groups
Referrals are available to support groups in the greater Cincinnati area or in the community where you live. Referrals include Cancer Family Care, The Wellness Community, churches, etc. Please do not hesitate to contact your Cancer Center social worker for assistance with a referral.

Resource Center
The Sharron Moore Eckel Cancer Resource Center houses computers and printed materials for the use of cancer patients, their families, friends, loved ones, hospital staff, and the general public. The materials are geared toward prevention, education, and support. Some of the information sources include American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute, and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

If we can be of service, please stop by the Oncology Social Work office in the Cancer Center or contact an oncology social worker at 513-585-2023 or 513-585-2908.
