Pilates for Rehabilitation Patients

Pilates instructors at The Christ Hospital Physical Therapy Centers use this system to rehabilitate people of all ages and fitness levels for a wide variety of conditions.

Pilates techniques can be used to rehabilitate many orthopedic and neurological disorders such as arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, post-operative back and knee patients, non-surgical and surgical back conditions was well as knee and shoulder patients. Using the Pilates technique, movement can be initiated earlier in the recovery process without causing further damage to healing tissue. By allowing patients to move earlier without pain, they can begin recovery more quickly.

Pilates allows the patient to practice efficient movement patterns that will decrease the stress on the joints and tissue.

Most injuries care caused by overuse or poor movement patterns, which cause pain. Pilates is unique in that it is a neuromuscular exercise which means that it reeducated your body’s movement patterns to resolve poor or paint-causing movements.
