Internal Medicine Residency Curriculum

Comprehensive critical care training that connects to fellowships

The schedule and curriculum of The Christ Hospital Internal Medicine Residency is designed to develop excellent clinical skills while fostering strong relationships with attendings to support each resident’s professional goals.

We are committed to your success. The outstanding reputation of our institution and program along with away-elective options contribute to our proven ability to match residents in fellowships. Through our alumni and professional networks, you’ll be able to make connections for fellowships across the country.

Your curriculum during your internal medicine residency at The Christ Hospital includes ongoing hospitalist rotations, critical care and clinic training and research opportunities.

Hospitalist and Specialty Care Training

Residents in our program work with our hospitalists throughout their rotations. You’ll learn from and work with some of the nation’s most competent and skilled hospitalists. Four of our hospitalists have additional training as geriatricians, which is one reason The Christ Hospital geriatric care ranked as high performing by U.S. News & World Report for 2020-2021.

You’ll also have individualized instruction and directed reading in our simulation lab

ICU Training

You’ll also have comprehensive training in our medical intensive care unit, where you gain experience in medically complex cases. During the rotation, you’ll join one of our critical care specialists who not only leads multidisciplinary rounds on the ICU. You’ll develop increased diagnostic and clinical skills that allow you to effectively treat patients with conditions from routine to life-threatening.

Clinic Experience

To enhance your experience during your internal medicine residency, you’ll rotate through clinical sites that include The Christ Hospital and The Christ Hospital Outpatient Clinic.

Research Opportunities

In addition to your hands-on clinical experiences, you’ll find opportunities for multidisciplinary research with active clinical trials. Research center partners include the Carl and Edyth Lindner Center for Research and Education, The Christ Hospital Cancer Center, and the James Gamble research facility . While in our residency program, we expect and encourage you to participate in and publish research.
