Heart & Vascular Surgical Treatments

We excel in these and other highly specialized procedures: 

• Coronary artery bypass—a surgery that improves blood flow to the heart. 
• Heart valve repair—a procedure used to fix defects in heart valves. 
• Heart valve replacement<link to Heart & Vascular – Heart Valve Disease>—a procedure that removes a damaged valve in the heart and replaces it with a new artificial valve.  
• Left ventricular assist device (LVAD)—for patients with advanced heart failure, we implant a mechanical pump to increase the amount of blood that flows through the body. 
• Robotic-assisted procedures—use a robotic “arm” to assist your surgeon’s hands, leading to fewer side effects, quicker recovery times and often longer-lasting results. 
• Ross procedure—a procedure that removes a patient’s pulmonary valve and uses it to replace a diseased aortic valve. We replace the pulmonary valve with a pulmonary homograft (donor tissue). 
• Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)— a minimally invasive procedure that replaces a narrowed aortic valve that isn’t opening properly. 

Cardiothoracic Robotic-Assisted Surgery 

Robotic-assisted surgery is less invasive and more precise than traditional surgery. Instead of making a large incision through the breastbone, your surgeon makes a few small incisions in your chest. The surgeon is in constant control of the robotic arms. 

We provide these and other robotic-assisted procedures: 

• Coronary artery bypass grafting (heart bypass surgery) for coronary artery disease or heart attack 
• Mitral valve repair for mitral valve disease 
• Single port robotic-assisted thoracic surgery for lung and mediastinal procedures 

In addition, we treat these conditions: 

• Adult congenital disease and atrial septal defects 
• Myxoma (tumors in the heart) 
• Triscuspid valve disease
