• Ultrasound—to view soft tissues in the elbow.
• X-rays—to get images that help diagnose your condition.

Treatment for elbow tendonitis or bursitis depends on your unique condition. Options may include:

• Antibiotics—for bursitis caused by infection.
• Cold therapy—to reduce swelling and inflammation.
• Cortisone injections—to relieve pain and inflammation.
• Pain medication—to decrease pain.
• Physical therapy—to restore elbow strength and mobility.
• Rest—to allow the elbow to heal.
• Surgery—for severe cases or to drain an inflamed bursa.
