Signs & Symptoms
Signs and symptoms of a knee sprain, strain or tear may include:
- A popping sound at the time of injury
- Difficulty walking
- Pain, especially when bearing weight
- Reduced range of motion or inability to use the knee normally
- Swelling and irritation
Diagnosis
Along with a physical exam and medical history, we may use one or more tests to diagnose a knee strain, sprain or tear, including:
- Arthroscopy—to assess knee damage by inserting a small camera into the joint.
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)—to create detailed images of the structures inside your knee.
- X-rays—of the knee.
