The Christ Hospital Health Network Sets Record with 500th Monarch Procedure Detecting Lung Cancer
CINCINNATI (July 6, 2026) – The Christ Hospital Health Network recently performed its 500th milestone case using the Monarch Robotic-assisted bronchoscopy Platform to diagnose lung cancer in patients. This cutting-edge procedure does not require incisions and can locate and biopsy very small spots in the lung that otherwise would be unreachable.
Physicians at The Christ Hospital Health Network know early detection of cancer can provide better outcomes for patients. The Network was the first healthcare system in Cincinnati to use the Monarch technology. Prior to this new technology, patients had to wait months before repeated low dose CAT scans to determine if the spot in questions was growing. Now, doctors within The Christ Hospital use the Monarch’s tiny scopes to immediately biopsy and confirm a diagnosis.
“From our first Monarch case to our 500th, patients at The Christ Hospital Health Network know they are receiving accurate results without a delay in their care,” Vishal Jivan, MD, Pulmonologist at The Christ Hospital Health Network. “Sadly, many lung cancer patients do not show symptoms until an advanced stage with limited treatment options lower survival risk. Having this technology shows that The Christ Hospital is doing everything it takes to create better outcomes for our patients.”
The Christ Hospital Health Network is home to the award-winning Lung Nodule Clinic. The clinic provides comprehensive testing and treatment for patients with lung nodules. The comprehensive care team develops personalized care for each person which may include the Monarch procedure.
More than 250,000 people are diagnosed with lung cancer each year which is why early detection is key. The Monarch procedure is a perfect complement to the Lung Cancer Screening Program also offered at The Christ Hospital.
