New Procedure Benefits Patients Needing Tricuspid Valve Replacement
CINCINNATI (August 6, 2026) – Geoffrey Answini, MD, Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at The Christ Hospital Heart & Vascular Institute, lead the first-in-Ohio FDA-approved valve for tricuspid replacement. Being the first in the state of Ohio to implant this valve shows the network’s commitment to research and development in the latest techniques for cardiovascular surgery.
The TRIFORMIS valve specifically mimics the shape of the tricuspid valve annulus during functional regurgitation. It also offers RESILIA tissue treatment on valve leaflets that helps mitigate further calcification and degeneration. This allows the valve to last longer than previous biologic valves.
“This purpose-built tricuspid valve has a “D” shaped ring that mimics the dilated annulus and helps reduce the need for pacemaker placement and is ideal for patients,” said Answini. “Being part of another landmark first for The Christ Hospital Health Network means patients continue to have the best surgical options closer to home. As the only FDA-approved tricuspid valve available, this will have a huge impact for patients by offering them the best technology out there. Since the data shows that repairing or replacing the tricuspid has similar outcomes, we may be more apt to replace in the future.”.
The procedure was made part by research developed by the Carl and Edyth Lindner Center for Research at The Christ Hospital Health Network.
