Through two phases, Project Heart ReStart has raised more than $460,000 and purchased 230 AED units. Those units have been installed in vehicles of almost 30 different law enforcement agencies in Hamilton County including 130 for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
Phase 2 donors include the Hamilton County Commissioners, members of the Rotary Club of Cincinnati, Cintas, The Gardner Foundation, Laurie Nippert Leonard, Zoll, Building Healthy Lives Foundation, The Blue Line Foundation and a number of individual donors.
The Blue Line Foundation recently made a generous donation to complete the Phase 2 goal. The Blue Line Foundation is dedicated to supporting regional law enforcement agencies through a comprehensive range of programs and initiatives. Project Heart ReStart’s goals align with The Blue Line’s efforts to support officer health, wellness and training.
The Phase I goal, initially launched at The Christ Hospital Health Network with the Rotary Club of Cincinnati in the summer of 2023, was to purchase and install AEDs in every Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office vehicle. Donors to Phase I included The Christ Hospital Health Network, Mercy Health, TriHealth, UC Health, Cincinnati Children’s, Cintas, members of the Rotary Club of Cincinnati and community members. The initial campaign was kicked off with a $125,000 pledge by the Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners.
Having an AED for first responders on the scene of a cardiac event has the potential to increase survival rates from 10% to 40%. Project Heart ReStart will hold an upcoming press conference announcing Phase III of the initiative expanding into Northern Kentucky.
