CMS’ star rating system, which launched in 2016, assigns stars based on 46 quality measures in the following five categories: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care. CMS rated more than 4,600 hospitals with the following breakdown: one star: 250 hospitals, two stars: 668, three stars: 872, four stars: 895, five stars: 483. Only 15% of hospitals reviewed were awarded a five-star rating.
The Star Ratings help hospitals drive systematic improvements in care and safety harnessing the power of process improvement to improve quality and lower costs. Consumers and patients point to Hospital Compare and the Star Ratings as important resources by which they determine who their provider of care will be.

This award comes on the heels of The Christ Hospital being named the #1 Hospital in the Cincinnati Region for the ninth year in a row by U.S. News & World Report, including being named a Top 50 Hospital for Orthopedics. The Network was also named a Best Cancer Hospital by Newsweek for 2023.
