Heart disease is the #1 killer of both men and women, but it is preventable. Cardiovascular diseases kill nearly 1 in 3 women each year, killing approximately one woman every 80 seconds. Fortunately, we can change that because 80% of cardiac and stroke events may be prevented with education and action. The Christ Hospital Health Network wants patients to ‘Know Your Numbers’ including, cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index (BMI). Keeping those numbers in line will help to lower your risk of heart disease.
Heart Month is a time where The Christ Hospital Health Network looks to educate the community about the heart disease, ways you can improve your odds and sharing that information with others. Maintaining a healthy weight, not smoking, healthy blood pressure and getting regular weekly exercise can help lower your risk of developing heart disease.
