The Christ Hospital Earns “A” Grade for Patient Safety

The Christ Hospital has been recognized for its dedication to patient safety by being awarded an A grade in the Fall 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades

The Christ Hospital has been recognized for its dedication to patient safety by being awarded an A grade in the Fall 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from preventable medical errors, injuries and infections within the hospital.

An A grade is one of the most meaningful honors a hospital can achieve, and one of the most valuable indicators for patients looking for a safe place to receive care. The Hospital Safety Score is the gold standard rating for patient safety, compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading patient safety experts and administered by The Leapfrog Group, a national, independent nonprofit. The first and only hospital safety rating to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety, the Hospital Safety Score is free to the public and designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.

“Recognition by Leapfrog for our dedication to patient safety is a reflection of our values and our ongoing commitment to our patients. Thanks to our physicians, nurses and staff, we are able to provide exceptional outcomes and the finest patient experiences while keeping the safety of the patient a priority.” said Arturo Polizzi, President and CEO of The Christ Hospital Health Network.

Using 28 evidence-based measures of patient safety, The Leapfrog Group calculated a numerical score for all eligible hospitals in the U.S. (For a list of exclusion criteria, download a copy of the scoring methodology at www.HospitalSafetyGrade.org). The numerical score was then converted into one of five letter grades. "A" represents the best Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, followed in order by "B," "C," "D," and "F." Letter grade cut-points have been reset since Spring 2018.
