Fall allergies can include a number of symptoms but there are ways to combat them.

What’s Causing Your Fall Allergies?

Fall Allergies Have Arrived and Can Impact People Both Outdoors and Indoors

CINCINNATI (September 20, 2022) – This time of year, many Americans are coughing and sneezing their way through fall allergies. In fact, the Cincinnati region is one of the worst for allergy sufferers due to the climate and geography.

“If you suffer from seasonal allergies, Cincinnati isn’t helping as the seasons change,” said Collin Burkart, MD, ear nose and throat specialist with The Christ Hospital Health Network. “We live in an area where pollen, ragweed and mold are higher than other parts of the country. Even being indoors during the fall season can affect your allergies.”

Fall allergies can lead to a number of symptoms including:

• Nasal Congestion

• Runny Nose

• Sore Throat

• Sinus Infections

Many allergy sufferers deal with sinus pressure and pain. There are some tips that you can do at home to help alleviate some of those symptoms.

• Take a hot shower and breathe in the hot, moist air to break up mucus

• Apply a warm moist washcloth to your face

• Use a Neti pot to clean the nasal cavity

When self-care isn’t doing the trick or your symptoms continue to worsen over several weeks, you may have developed chronic sinusitis, meaning it could be time to see the doctor. Sinusitis can be caused by things other than allergies, like nasal polyps or an infection. If the cause of your sinusitis is infection, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics or other prescription medicines to treat it.
