About Jarrod D. Frizzell, MD

Jarrod Frizzell, MD, MS, FACC, FSCAI, is an interventional cardiologist practicing in Greater Cincinnati. He specializes in complex, higher-risk interventional procedures (CHIP), cardiac catheterizations, and placing stents to restore normal blood flow in arteries that have been blocked for months or years. Dr. Frizzell often treats patients who have been told they are not candidates for bypass surgery and those whose symptoms may no longer respond to medication therapies.

Dr. Frizzell is a firm believer in patient-centered care and teaching his patients how caring for their heart can improve their overall wellbeing. “I don’t lose sight of the impact of heart disease on the patient as a whole,” Dr. Frizzell says. “Sometimes that’s teaching them about a heart-healthy lifestyle or educating them about the medications I prescribe that have been shown to help people live longer, prevent heart attacks, or feel fewer symptoms.”

From a young age, Dr. Frizzell has always been interested in figuring our how things worked. That led him to studying both science and philosophy in college. “Figuring out human biology was particularly fascinating, and I felt drawn to medicine as a unique combination of deep knowledge, education, and helping others.”

Dr. Frizzell completed his undergraduate studies in biochemistry and philosophy at Western Kentucky University and graduated from medical school at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, along with fellowships in critical care medicine and cardiovascular disease. He also completed a fellowship in interventional cardiology at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, with an emphasis on CHIP and chronic total occlusions (CTO).

One of his proudest accomplishments was receiving the Khatali Award while training at the University of New Mexico. “Khatali is derived from an ancient Navajo word for healer,” Dr. Frizzell says. “The award is given by graduating medical school students each year to only one of several hundred trainees.” The citation accompanying the award praised Dr. Frizzell for modeling what it means to be an excellent educator, physician, and mentor.

Dr. Frizzell says he was drawn to The Christ Hospital by its reputation for world-class heart care. “The Christ Hospital is not only nationally and internationally renowned for groundbreaking research and clinical trials, as well as cutting-edge and life-changing procedures and therapies, but also intimately focused, tailored approaches for individual patients. Every single person at The Christ Hospital is dedicated to improving your heart, your health, and your life.”

Dr. Frizzell is a Fellow with the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He is Board Certified in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease, critical care medicine, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in adult echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography. He is active in cardiovascular clinical research and been published by the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, New England Journal of Medicine, and Circulation.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Frizzell enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters. “I am very much a girl dad,” Dr. Frizzell says. He enjoys reading, music, and learning how to play the guitar. And from his time in New Mexico, he still has a craving for authentic cuisine from the southwest. “I can’t live without green chile,” Dr. Frizzell says.
