Matthew Mangini, MD is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine who is skilled in minimally-invasive hip and knee repair, including hip and knee joint replacement. He sees patients at the Red Bank location and at the Christ Hospital Joint & Spine Center in Mt. Auburn.
He has a wealth of experience as an orthopedic surgeon, including as an officer in the U.S. Army, where he performed emergency procedures for battlefield injuries as a member of a forward surgical team. “I consider the opportunity to save the lives and limbs of those injured in battle to be my greatest medical accomplishment,” he says.
Dr. Mangini’s personal experience with surgery and rehabilitation following an injury as a high school baseball player inspired his career choice. “I learned how orthopaedic surgery was able to restore function and allow me to return to athletics,” he says. “From that point on, I knew I wanted to help other people in the same way.”
He strives to provide his patients with the same level of care that he would give to members of his own family. He takes a team approach to caring for each patient with a focus on shared decision making and an understanding of their unique goals and circumstances. He advocates for his patients to achieve their best health by remaining active and doing the things they most enjoy. “If you are limited in the ability to do these things, together we can come up with a plan to get you back to doing them,” he says.
Dr. Mangini earned a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Biology from Washington University in St. Louis and his Medical Degree from the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. He completed his residency with the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium, and his fellowship in adult reconstruction at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
When not providing care, Dr. Mangini enjoys spending time with his wife and their children, including as a coach of his son’s sports teams. He also enjoys cooking, trying new restaurants and cuisine, golf, and fishing. He is also an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes athletics.
