Rodger Rothenberger, MD is a board-certified physician with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Urogynecology who specializes in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynecology. He provides care for patients at the Mason and Mt. Auburn locations.
Growing up as the child of a family doctor and a NICU nurse provided Dr. Rothenberger with an early understanding of how rewarding, and humbling, it can be to work in medicine. That knowledge, and a fascination with the combination of science, skill, and compassion inspired him to pursue a career as a physician. “I found myself drawn to moments where a thoughtful intervention could dramatically improve a person’s quality of life,” he says.
Dr. Rothenberger chose to pursue urogynecology for the opportunity to combine surgical skill and long-term patient relationships to solve issues that can have an impact on a patient’s dignity, confidence, and quality of life.
He approaches care with a philosophy of partnership, compassion, and respect to help his patients feel heard and comfortable when discussing concerns that often carry a stigma such as prolapse or incontinence. “For me, good care doesn’t only mean treating a condition,” Dr. Rothenberger says. “It means helping patients feel supported and empowered so that together we can build a plan of care that’s evidence-based but also fits their goals and lifestyle.”
Dr. Rothenberger earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from Albright College and his Doctor of Medicine from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. He completed a residency in obstetrics & gynecology at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and a fellowship in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery at the University of Louisville Medical Center.
He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology and is a member of the American Urogynecologic Society, the Society for Gynecologic Surgeons, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Dr. Rothenberger is a native of Philadelphia and is a passionate Philly sports fan. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, who is also a physician, and their dog – Han Solo. They enjoy hiking, exploring the outdoors, and trying new foods around Cincinnati. He volunteers with The Bridge Adaptive Sports and Recreation – a nonprofit founded by his wife and her colleagues.
