I was appropriately presented with the management options of medication (the pill) or surgical (D&C). However, I was not provided with a clear, detailed explanation of how each option works, including the expected process, timeline, level of pain/cramping, amount of bleeding anticipated, and what signs would indicate a need for follow-up or emergency care. The potential risks-such as incomplete passage requiring additional intervention for the medication option, or rare complications like infection, heavy bleeding, or Asherman's syndrome for the D&C-were not discussed in depth. Similarly, recovery expectations (physical and emotional) for each choice were not outlined, which left me feeling unprepared to make an informed decision that aligned with my needs and circumstances.Additionally, no resources or practical guidance were offered for the possibility of the miscarriage completing at home, such as what to expect physically, how to manage symptoms safely, when to seek urgent help, or basic self-care tips. In such a vulnerable time, having written handouts, reliable websites, or a referral to a social worker for emotional support would have been extremely beneficial. A social worker consultation could have helped address the grief, isolation, and processing needs that often accompany pregnancy loss. These omissions made an already difficult experience feel more overwhelming and unsupported. I hope this feedback encourages more comprehensive, patient-centered discussions-including detailed verbal explanations, written materials, and proactive referrals to support services-for future patients navigating miscarriage management.

I love Dr. Young. She is caring, compassionate, explains her recommendations clearly and takes time to listen and counsel. She makes me feel like I am her only patient that day and never seems rushed, even though I know she's busy!
