Jennifer Y. Chung, MD

Jennifer Y. Chung, MD, is physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) physician who specializes in restoring function and quality of life to people who have physical impairments, disabilities and pain issues.

Her areas of special interest include non-surgical spine and musculoskeletal medicine, spine and peripheral joint injections, trigger point injections and dry needling, musculoskeletal ultrasound, electrodiagnostic studies, headache management, regenerative medicine (PRP and prolotherapy), and botulinum toxin therapy for spasticity and migraines.

Dr. Chung strives to help her patients live their best lives. “My patients often comment that they feel the best that they have in 15 or 20 years and they're finally able to do things that they have not been able to do for so long,” she says. “Hearing that positive feedback and seeing how happy they are – those are some of the best aspects of my job.”

In her practice, Dr. Chung works to improve and restore functional ability for patients with spine and musculoskeletal pain and related issues. When treating these cases, she draws on professional training as well as her own personal experience navigating debilitating back pain starting at age 14.

“My pain was so severe at times that I had difficulty walking and getting out of bed on my own,” Dr. Chung says. “It took about 10 years for me to be diagnosed with an autoimmune arthritis condition called ankylosing spondylitis. The PM&R physician who diagnosed me ultimately became my mentor. I think having my own journey with pain – seeing how it affected my life – has allowed me to be a better physician and clinician for my patients.”

Dr. Chung earned her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine and completed residency training at New York University Langone Medical Center, where she served as chief resident. She is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Dr. Chung has been continuously named one of the region’s Top Doctors by both Cincinnati Magazine and Cincy Magazine since 2018. She received the Woman of Influence Award from Lead Tribune Media Group in 2020.

In her spare time, Dr. Chung enjoys playing tennis, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

Above all, she tries to approach each day with positivity. “I think people underestimate the connection between optimism and positivity and their health,” she says. “Whatever gives you joy is what I think you should pursue. I live each day with that motto.”
