Dr. Tolbert earned his AAS in nursing and pre-medical requirements from Northern Kentucky University and his medical degree from the University of Kentucky. He completed his residency in family practice at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, KY.
He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Kentucky Medical Association, Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians and the Northern Kentucky Medical Association.
Prior to earning his nursing and medical degrees, Dr. Tolbert was an emergency medical technician and paramedic. He has also served in the Kentucky Army National Guard and is a current member of the U.S. Army Reserve, assigned to the 63rd Regional Support Command.

Dr. Tolbert is very kind and never rushes me. He listens to me and doesn't try to overtalk me with what he knows. He treats me like an adult that knows their body. I have great respect for him.
