Kareem Atwa, MD, is a family medicine doctor with The Christ Hospital Physicians Primary Care. He provides comprehensive medical care to patients of all ages including children, adolescents, adults, and seniors.
A love of science and passion for connecting with others drew Dr. Atwa to a career in medicine. I love medicine because it allows me to think about how complex problems fit together, Dr. Atwa says. I welcome a challenge, am always looking to learn more, and pride myself in considering every option when it comes to your health.
I also wanted to ensure that my parents, both Palestinian immigrants, saw their dreams and sacrifices manifested as something meaningful in the world, Dr. Atwa says.
Dr. Atwa looks forward to making genuine connections with his patients and supporting them through their health challenges. Asking for help and seeking care is extremely brave, he says. It's important to be patient with yourself and your body as it changes and heals.
Even before his career as a physician began, Dr. Atwa committed himself to serving others, whether it was tutoring other students or volunteering with local animal shelters, hospitals, and Habitat for Humanity.
Dr. Atwa graduated magna cum laude from Wayne State University in Michigan with a double major in Biological Science and Biochemistry and Chemical Biology. He completed medical school at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and his residency with Bethesda Family Medicine at Trihealth.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Atwa enjoys hiking with his dog, reading alongside his two cats, racing his wife to finish the daily crossword puzzle, playing and watching sports, and travel.
