Sarah Shim, MD is a physician with The Christ Hospital Physicians who specializes in Obstetrics & Gynecology. She provides care for women at the Green Township and Mt. Auburn locations.
Dr. Shim’s father, a pediatric cardiologist, passed away from a rare cardiac defect when she was six years old. Even at that young age, she saw his dedication to helping others during challenging times, which inspired her to honor his legacy by pursuing a career in medicine. “I found myself specifically drawn to Obstetrics and Gynecology so that I could help empower other women the way I was empowered by my mom and two older sisters who raised me,” she adds.
Her approach to providing care for her patients begins with listening first so she can better understand their individual backgrounds, values, concerns, goals, and perceptions about their conditions so she can provide personalized options for care. She is also committed to treating every patient with the respect and compassion she would provide to members of her own family.
Dr. Shim values open and honest communication with her patients and encourages them to share their concerns or fears without the worry of judgement. “We’re here to serve you,” she says. “The best way we can do that is by knowing your concerns no matter how big or small.”
She earned a Bachelor of Science with Distinction in Cellular and Molecular Biology and English from the University of Michigan and her Medical Degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She completed a residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology with the University of Minnesota Medical Center’s Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women’s Health Residency Program.
Dr. Shim is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, the Association of Women Surgeons, and the American Medical Association.
A native Cincinnatian, Dr. Shim met her husband, who is also a physician and Cincinnati native, while in medical school at the University of Cincinnati. They enjoy watching the Bengals, spending time with their dog, Winston, and eating at local restaurants. As a double major in English, she is a passionate reader, especially when it comes to literary fiction, thrillers, and beach reads.
