Shelby Gardner, MD, is a family medicine doctor The Christ Hospital Physicians – Primary Care. She treats patients of all ages. Her areas of interest include women’s health, preventative care and management of chronic health conditions.
Dr. Gardner pursued a career in medicine after watching her mother provide compassionate care as an RN to patients from marginalized communities at an urban hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. She believes listening and compassion can go a long way toward healing, and she chose family medicine for the opportunity to build long-term relationships with her patients. “I strive to understand the narrative of the person in front of me so that I can partner together with my patient to help them achieve their health goals,” she says. ?
Dr. Gardner earned a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University, where she graduated magna cum laude. She earned her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where she was a Women’s Health Scholar. She completed her residency in family medicine at OhioHealth Riverside Hospital, where she served as Chief Resident.
She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Women’s Association and Phi Beta Kappa. She says her most humbling accomplishment is receiving the "This I Believe" award from the Family Medicine Education Consortium in 2019. The award is modeled after the popular National Public Radio project of the same name and is presented to physicians who share a written affirmation of their core beliefs about serving others.
When not practicing medicine, Dr. Gardner enjoys exploring local parks and hiking trails with her husband and her dog. She is an avid fan of Ohio State football and enjoys reading, gardening, visiting her brother in Seattle and experimenting with recipes found on Pinterest.
