What Is High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)​?

High blood pressure is a common but serious condition. About one in every three adults in the US have hypertension. And nearly one out of three adults have prehypertension—blood pressure numbers that are higher than normal, but not yet in the high range.

We offer advanced methods for diagnosing high blood pressure. Once you are diagnosed, we give personalized instruction and education on blood pressure monitoring and lifestyle changes that can help. These include diet, smoking cessation, exercise, weight loss and stress management.

Know Your Blood Pressure Numbers

Have your blood pressure checked at your annual physical and more often if you have risk factors. Many people have no symptoms of high blood pressure until it causes organ damage. That’s why it is known as “the silent killer.” 

If you have elevated blood pressure, it can quickly develop into hypertension. The concern is greater if you have added risk factors, such as being overweight or having high blood sugar or cholesterol. If you have high blood pressure, talk to your doctor about ways you can lower it.
