Diagnosing Trigger Finger
The cause of trigger finger is not well understood. However, people who experience forceful hand activities or have diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis are at higher risk for this condition.
Signs & Symptoms
Trigger finger symptoms may include:
- Difficulty flexing your fingers and/or thumbs
- Inability/difficulty extending your fingers and/or thumbs
- Involuntary locking of your fingers or thumb
- Pain in your fingers and/or thumbs
Diagnosis
To diagnose trigger finger, your doctor will review your symptoms, discuss your health history and any current or previous injuries, as well as examine your finger for stiffness and signs of locking. In some cases, your doctor may order an X-ray.
