Podiatric Medicine & Surgery Residency

Our three-year residency based at The Christ Hospital offers academic training while you participate fully in the evaluation, care and surgical management of patients.  

Our program was created, approved and credentialed in 2010. The residency experience is under the guidance of Douglas Schuckmann, DPM, FACFAS, Program Director, Clinical Director and designated program preceptor. As a resident, you are trained in comprehensive foot and ankle care with special emphasis in the development of advanced skills in reconstructive forefoot and rearfoot/ankle surgical, pre-operative and post-operative care.  

We pride ourselves on the pursuit of excellence and maintaining a traditional collegial working relationship with the residents, podiatrists and other attending surgeons. It is through hard work of the administration, residents and the attending staff of the Department of Podiatric Surgery that this residency program has been developed and maintained at the highest level.

Applications

Student & Clerkship Applicants

We have affiliation agreements in place with the podiatric medical schools, to allow students to rotate through our hospital as externs. We participate in the clerkship rounds through DPMclerkships.  However, we also accept and schedule students for clerkships after the rounds are complete, if slots are available. 

Free parking at the hospital. 

It is encouraged that the student has a car for their clerkship. 

Housing is not provided to students. We have agreements for special pricing at local hotels, if the students are inclined to take advantage of this arrangement. 

We offer up to 2 clerkships per month, except for the months of June and July. The months of June and July are used to acclimate the new resident(s) to our program. We consider having students as a benefit to our program. It is an opportunity to assess their work ethic and test their skills and knowledge prior to residency interviews. It is also advantageous for the student to see if our program would be a good fit for them. 

Students will assist the residents with their daily duties (clinic, rounding, surgery, didactics, etc.). Students are expected to participate in any activities after normal work hours and on weekends as well, such as journal clubs and surgeries. While we want to offer a rewarding educational opportunity to the students, at no time should the presence of students impede the learning or experience of the residents.

Residency Applicants

All prospective podiatric residents wishing to apply to the program will need to apply through the CASPR application process. The Christ Hospital PMSR program representatives attend CASPR/CRIP for the selection process.
