Cardiovascular Anesthesiologist and Intensivist (CTA/CCM)

The Christ Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio is recruiting highly motivated and skilled physicians with fellowship training in both cardiothoracic anesthesiology and critical care medicine.  These physicians will be directly employed by the Heart and Vascular institute/ The Christ Hospital Physicians. These physicians will work alongside academic minded specialists in cardiothoracic operating rooms and in the CVICU.  This is a talented and multidisciplinary group (with backgrounds in critical care medicine, cardiology, advanced heart failure, emergency medicine and cardiac anesthesiology).  The Christ Hospital has a robust and advanced cardiothoracic program and is a regional referral center for shock, LVAD, ECMO, multivalvular, and complex cardiac care. The CTA/CCM physicians will have a balanced schedule sharing time equally as cardiac intensivists in our 16 bed CVICU, and as cardiovascular anesthesiologists in the operating room.  Critical care cases will include managing a wide range of critical illness and cardiac conditions such as severe valvular disease, AMI, cardiogenic shock, and chronic heart failure.  Time in the operating room will be predominately cardiovascular and thoracic cases, but may include time performing other cases including general surgery, gynecology, orthopedics, urology, etc.  Virtually all cases are in a care team model with medical direction of both CRNAs and AAs. Appropriately qualified and experienced individuals will be considered for the position of Chairperson, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesia.

PROGRAM SPECIFICS

  • 555 Bed hospital with a Heart and Vascular Institute model

  • Greater than 600 Cardiopulmonary bypass cases per year and growing rapidly

  • Greater than 40 LVADs per year, with active plans for a heart transplant program

  • Approximately 150 structural heart cases including MitraClips and TAVRs

  • 16 Bed CVICU with a planned expansion to at least 28 beds within the next year

  • Multidisciplinary intensivist group with backgrounds in interventional cardiology, heart failure, and emergency medicine

  • ACGME accredited residency in Internal medicine and fellowship in general cardiology with teaching opportunities if desired

  • Access to participation in clinical trials as well as investigator-initiated trials through The Carl and Edyth Lindner Center for Research and Education

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fellowship training in critical care medicine (board certified or board eligible)

  • Fellowship training in cardiac anesthesiology

  • Diplomate or Testamur status in advanced perioperative transesophageal echocardiography

  • Eligibility for Ohio medical license and DEA certificate

JOB SPECIFICS:

0.5 FTE – Cardiac Intensivist, covering CVICU – 12hr shift model, fixed compensation, supported team with APPs and clinical pharmacy  

0.5 FTE – Cardiac Anesthesiologist, covering primarily cardiovascular surgeries and procedures; supported team with CRNAs and AAs

PTO – 40 days (inclusive of CME time)

Call requirement:

  • 0.5 FTE CVICU – Approximately 7 - 8 twelve hour in-house shifts per month, may be daytime (7a-7p) or nighttime (7p-7a), typically grouped as consecutive days to provide continuity of patient care

  • 0.5 FTE Cardiac Anesthesia – covering cardiovascular cases in the OR, and participating in the cardiac anesthesiology call pool (at 50% FTE equivalent, inclusive of nights/weekends/holidays)

Teaching requirement:

  • In CVICU – As part of direct patient care, the intensivist may provide instruction to general cardiology fellows and/or internal medicine residents (elective rotation); In addition, the CVICU is an optional clinical rotation for student APPs

  • In OR – Supervision of CRNAs and AAs

Urology Advanced Practice Provider

Shift:  Night shift (7p-7a), includes weekend and holiday coverage.

Location:  This position will be located at The Christ Hospital – Main campus, The Christ Hospital, 2139 Auburn Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.

Position Description:  This APP will be responsible for night shift Urology coverage. This includes consultative interactions with patients, minor procedural responsibilities (catheter placements etc.), and assisting with call from hospital floors/ER etc.

Job Overview:  The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) may be an APRN or PA that has been prepared with the appropriate graduate level education and authorized to practice and prescribe as such. May provide general medical and/or surgical care and treatment to patients in a medical setting (office, telemedicine, hospital, Urgent Care, LTC, or Clinic) in collaboration with physician(s) for APP's where dictated. If the APP will be practicing in the hospital setting, the delineation of privileges will also dictate the scope of practice.

Education:  Graduate from accredited Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.

License/Certification:

  • DEA license
  • BLS and ACLS certified

Certified Nurse Practitioner: Acute Care, Adult, or Family Nurse Practitioner certification verified by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Current, valid license (registration) by the Ohio Board of Nursing or applicable state board

OR

Physician Assistant: Graduate from accredited physician assistant program with a Master's Degree Physician Assistant Certification (verified by the National Commission or the Certification of Physician Assistant – NCCPA. Current, valid license (registration) by the state Medical Board of Ohio or applicable state medical board. Current Certificate to prescribe by the State Medical Board of Ohio.

Experience:  Prior surgical experience preferred.
