Each year, tissue is provided by approximately 20,000 donors in the United States. The Christ Hospital’s transplant surgeons use donated tissue such as skin, bone and heart valves for people suffering from trauma, bone damage, spinal injuries, burns, hearing impairment and vision loss. One donation of tissue can save or enhance more than 50 lives.
The Christ Hospital kidney transplant program was named a Center of Excellence by meeting specific quality parameters and benchmarks developed by OptumHealth in conjunction with its Clinical Sciences Institute. These criteria include procedural volume and associated outcomes; stability of team; projected trends and technological advances in the specific field of medical science; and overall commitment to its field through the synergy of multiple, related programs within the medical center.
