The Christ Hospital Health Network Partners with Pampers on Bright Beginnings Reading Initiative to Provide Books to Newborns

The program’s goal is to drive awareness of the importance of reading to babies

The Christ Hospital Health Network is proud to announce it has partnered with Pampers’ Bright Beginnings Reading initiative to highlight the developmental benefits of reading to babies.

Four million children under the age of three have not been read to in their lifetime yet reading to a baby has proven to make a significant impact by improving core brain development through exposure to words.

Pampers’ vision is that every baby will be read to from birth, which is why they have partnered with Scholastic to offer books and resources to families and communities that have limited access to age-appropriate resources. Their goal is to engage local community groups and hospitals across the country to help every baby experience the benefits of being read to from birth, supporting a bright beginning at the start of their lives.

“At Pampers, we believe a baby’s earliest days are essential toward shaping a bright beginning,” said Sarah Pasquinucci, Senior Communications Director, P&G North America Baby Care and mother of two. “Through Pampers Bright Beginnings, our goal is to help every baby experience the benefits of being read to from birth and we are thrilled to be able to achieve this at a local level through our partnership with The Christ Hospital.”

With initiatives like the Safe Sleep program, breastfeeding classes and a wealth of easily accessible birthing classes for both parents and grandparents alike, The Christ Hospital prioritizes a healthy start to life for all our patients. Our Baby Café also offers encouragement and education in all aspects of breastfeeding and its impact on daily life in an environment where women who are in similar situations can share experiences, find support and make friends. Equipping those who will be caring for a baby with the best tools to ensure a safe and healthy childhood are critical to our services.

“We are honored to partner with Pampers on their Bright Beginnings Reading initiative,” said Leanne Olshavsky, MD, Medical Director of Women’s Health. “We know that nurturing healthy development and cognitive function begins at a young age, and small efforts can make huge impacts on a child’s growth. This program is a welcome addition to the wealth of early-childhood teaching and development services we offer at The Christ Hospital.”

Books from the Pampers Bright Beginnings Reading initiative began arriving to The Christ Hospital in January 2021. These books, chosen by Pampers and in partnership with Scholastic, are age-appropriate, fun, diverse and bilingual. They include exciting story themes and colorful illustrations that resonate with all readers. Books were distributed to parents of newborns at the hospital as part of our “Surprise and Delight” method of celebrating the arrival of a new baby. Other Surprise and Delight initiatives include our limited-edition onesie program where babies born on certain celebratory days get a special onesie commemorating the occasion.
