The Christ Hospital Health Network and Mayfield Brain & Spine have expanded their long-time collaboration to enhance care for patients with brain tumors and other brain diseases. Programming includes a full portfolio of the most advanced neurosurgical care using cutting-edge equipment, treatment and procedures, all performed at The Christ Hospital.

“Today’s announcement of the joint cranial program between The Christ Hospital and Mayfield Brain & Spine is an exciting development that provides a new facet of healthcare to our patients,” said John Roberts, MD, Executive Medical Director of Musculoskeletal Services at The Christ Hospital. “It is, really, a natural progression of the long-term relationship between our two organizations. This partnership ensures that cutting-edge, evidence-based care will continue to be provided right here in Greater Cincinnati. All levels of cranial care, from the simple to the most complex, are available through our combined resources. It is truly an exciting collaboration for our community.”

The expanded services offered by The Christ Hospital and Mayfield Brain & Spine, two organizations recognized for excellence in clinical care and research, continues a relationship that started in 1937, when Dr. Frank H. Mayfield was recruited to Cincinnati to start a neurosurgery program. The Christ Hospital and Mayfield have collaborated to develop leading-edge spine services for thousands of patients throughout the region and now are expanding that world-class care to patients with diseases and disorders of the brain.

“Expanding the partnership between Mayfield Brain & Spine and The Christ Hospital Health Network, two of the region’s leading providers of high-quality care for the most complex health challenges, can only benefit patients and families,” said Robert Bohinski, MD, PhD, Mayfield neurosurgeon and Director of Neurosurgery at The Christ Hospital. “Through continuous quality improvement, sophisticated outcome monitoring, the development of leading protocols and use of innovative technologies, this partnership ensures The Christ Hospital will be a destination for advanced neurosurgical care.”

Both organizations will collaborate on bringing these cutting-edge innovations and clinical research trials to Cincinnati through the Lindner Research Institute and the Mayfield Education & Research Foundation. Among the priorities will be developing programs that will serve patients in the prevention and treatment of neurovascular disorders such as brain aneurysms, functional neurosurgery, treatment of movement disorders and treatment of chronic refractory pain syndromes.
