CINCINNATI (April 18, 2023) – The Christ Hospital Heart & Vascular Institute welcomes to its world-class team of cardiologists, Alexandru Costea, MD, clinical cardiac electrophysiology (EP).

Dr. Costea is a board-certified physician with The Christ Hospital Physicians – Heart & Vascular Team. “We are delighted to welcome this remarkably accomplished, renowned electrophysiologist to The Christ Hospital Health Network,” said Dean Kereiakes, MD, FACC, MSCAI, President of The Christ Hospital Heart & Vascular Institute. “Adding a talented physician like Dr. Costea helps us advance cardiovascular care as Cincinnati’s heart hospital. His medical and academic achievements are extraordinary and his commitment to leading edge, quality patient care is second to none.”

Dr. Costea says he was inspired by his father, who served as Chief of Pediatrics in Braila, Romania, to follow a career in medicine. Previously, he was professor of medicine and director of EP services at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He has advanced expertise in ablations, novel techniques, procedures and EP specific programs. While he has taught across the globe including in Italy, France and Romania, he sees something special at The Christ Hospital.

“The Christ Hospital Health Network has established itself as the regional leader in cardiac care and specifically electrophysiology,” said Dr. Costea. “I am very excited to join a group of amazing electrophysiologists, and together, lead the way in complex ventricular tachycardia ablations and lead extractions. This team provides great opportunities to advance research in the field of EP as a result of the extensive infrastructure already in place.”

He believes in developing a strong bond with patients at multiple levels to enhance the effectiveness of care.

“An additional level of communication outside of medicine can build a connection and mutual appreciation of values and trust,” said Dr. Costea. “I believe this has a direct link to the success of a treatment or procedure. I also urge my patients to be proactive in considering their heart health. Our patients can make an impact on their outcomes by living healthy. In the situations where an arrhythmia is present, constant communication with the physician is crucial while having a heightened awareness of symptoms.”

Dr. Costea is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiac Electrophysiology and in cardiovascular disease. To make an appointment, call 513-206-1291. For more information on The Christ Hospital Heart & Vascular Institute, click here.
